NEW - The Final Sortie

Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIV, 'MV268'. Wing Commander Johnny Johnson's last personal aircraft while he was commanding 144 wing.

Johnson was credited with 34 individual victories over enemy aircraft, as well as seven shared victories. Johnson flew 700 operational sorties and engaged enemy aircraft on 57 occasions. This score made him the highest scoring Western Allied fighter ace against the German Luftwaffe.

This piece title 'The Final Sortie' depicts his personal Spitfire Mk XIV with his initials J-EJ flying in to the setting sun over a field of red poppies at the end of war.

Johnson retired in 1966, with the rank of air vice marshal.
